25 Billion Downloads Contest

http://threeacts.mrmeyer.com/25billionapps/     To find the date and time of when this contest ends is kind if a lengthy process. First on February 24th at 6:27 p.m. there were 24,658,507,655 downloads. You subtract that from 25,000,000,00 and get 341,492,345 downloads left. I found the average by adding up the numbers from 6;27 p.m to 6:30 p.m. You then divide that by the average which is around 33,800 to get 10,103 minutes until we reach 25,000,000,00.  If you divide that by 60 you get the number of hours left which is 168 hours. Then you divide that by 24 to get the number of days which is 7 days left until we reach 25 billion. That would mean we would reach the 25 billion mark on March 2nd at 6:27 p.m. That would mean you would want to start downloading apps at around 6:15 or 6:20.

Student -Led Conferences

On Thursday we’re going to have student-led conferences. I’m going to reflect on the stuff we did in math since the beginning of the year. We subtracted and added negative numbers, which I can do easily. We also multiplied and divided negative number, which was a little harder but still easy. We also performed the distributive property which was really confusing at first but got really easy after a while. We combined like terms which if you’re dealing with negative numbers is hard, but if you’re dealing with positive numbers it’s easy. We also evaluated positive.negative and zero exponent which is easy. We also simplified expressions using exponents which was simple.   I think I deserve an A in this class. I can do the math and find most of it easy.

Estimating Square Roots

Hi!!!!!!!! Today we are going to estimate the square root of 108. First we set up the boundaries. The lower boundary is 100 which is 10*10. The higher boundary is 121 which is 11*11. Now we find the midpoint. The number in between 10 and 11 is 10.5. 10.5+100 is 110.5 so we know that the square root of 108 can’t be 5 or above. 10.1 sounds too low and 10.2 could be estimated to be too low also. 10.3 or 10.4  sound like a good estimate. Now we put the number in the calculator and get about 10.39 which rounds up to 10.4.  Thank you for reading my post about estimating square roots.
